| Key Biscayne and the Biscayne Islands If you are looking to get away from it all, where piece and quiet rule above all, then you just might consider the islands of Key Biscayne. South of the downtown Miami area, the islands make up a haven from the hustle and bustle of urban Miami living. There are plenty of tree-lined neighborhoods and shady parks to hang out in, and a few sporting options. Make sure you stop and check out the facilities at Crandon Park, as it is home to one of the top public golf courses in the state. Looking for water sports, then head on out to the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area and you will find inviting beaches with plenty of kayaking, sunbathing and swimming options. There you will also find rental facilities where you can grab a small sailboats, paddle boats, water and land bicycles and explore to your hearts content. |

Sunny Isles Beach, and Surfside
Once the darling of the 50s set, Sunny Isles Beach is slowly evolving into a lively resort town worthy of mention on its own. Most of the glitz and glamour from the Rat Pack days have given way to hi-rise condominiums and hotels, but there are still pockets where it seems that you have been thrown back in time. One stop at the Newport Fishing Pier is worth a thousand words here. Just drop in a line and start up some conversation with the locals around and you are sure to hear a story from the glory days. There are also many other activities to enjoy here, deep-sea fishing can be had around Haulover Beach Park, as is some pretty good sunbathing and walking. There are plenty of shady spots that you can throw down a blanket and catch a catnap or have a picnic with the family. There is even a tennis court or two near, if you feel like emulating Jimmy Connors.
Another small hamlet worth a note is Surfside. This is a very mellow and is populated mostly by families, but if you have some time may well be worthy of a peek. The focus here is the beach, a collection of rolling sand dunes that are ringed by a pathway, perfect for an early morning or late afternoon stroll to contemplate all that life offers. The town still has kept the Ozzie and Harriet feel to it, and you can even find a soda fountain at the corner drugstore, can you believe! Most, if not all of the restaurants here are kid friendly, and with the family atmosphere that is felt up and down Harding Avenue. If you are looking for some culture stop by the following, the Surfside Community Center and tot-Lot, as they provide year-round entertainment family-style. If you are looking for some piece and quiet head south to the North Shore State Recreation Area, where you will find a pristine example of the south Florida coast before development changed the landscape here forever.

| With its palm-lined streets, sandy beaches and crystal blue waters, the city of Miami has a look that only a postcard could upstage. The community of Miami is a conglomeration of small neighborhoods and towns, all very different from one another and in some ways very similar. From the coastal walks through Bal Harbour, the grand art deco buildings along South Beaches Ocean Boulevard awash with color and neon make Miami a destination like no other. So, come and experience a vacation like no other here in Miami. |
